Question: What's new with the latest release?
Answer: We turn this iPad kiosk app into an universal app that supports all versions of iPhone; from the newest iPhone 7+ to the still quite handy iPhone 4. Not only that, this app will work on both landscape and portrait orientation. If you can find any $1000+ app do the same we will send you a gift and a thank-you letter. Okay, enough of self-congratulations. We listen to our users and add the important features to make your event management as delightful as possible. The only problem, we admit, is our inability to catch up with the documentation. No hidden cost, still with a lifetime support. You can always call us to ask any questions. We do pick up our phone and talk to you in person.
Release 2.9 is available on September 3rd, 2017. This version fixed the problem with the printing to label sheet. The template Fifteen Monogram Stamp can now be printed using Avery 5247 labels. Although the template is for Avery 5247 using 4x6 paper size, it can be duplicated and modified to fit all Avery label sheets. You can modify the 1) Paper Size, 2) Number of Rows, 3) Number of Columns, 4) Row distance, 5) Column distance to create unlimited templates yourself. Since no printers are identical, we added 2 offset values X and Y, which allows you to specify the upper left corner of your first label. Please test your template on plain papers until you are completely satisfied with it. The templates can be shared internally or with the public. Send us your labels and we can design the template for you free.
Release 2.8 is available on June 22, 2017. We have been busy updating and perfecting the NB201. The new release added support for more paper sizes, fonts, and fixed some bugs. We also added the new "mirror" feature to support paper or tapes with clear background. By switching to MIRROR, any existing templates can be flipped horizontal. They can be applied to the inside of glasses, windows, etc., and they will look awesome. This feature will support any templates, whether landscape, or portrait, whether text, or graphics, of any sizes. (Example of a clear tape DK-2113)
Release 2.6 is available on May 18, 2017. I think we overdid it this time. This version supports literally unlimited templates and unlimited printers. Who would have more than 2 printers anyway? This new version removed the template 1 and template 2. You can checkmark unlimited number of templates, each with its own printer, paper, and design. In theory, you can print, say to 10 printers with literally just one tap. For example: the first printer QL-820NWB prints the name badge using DK-2205, the second printer QL-710W prints a raffle ticket using DK-N5225, the third printer PT-P900W prints 10 copies of 36mm social media stickers, the fourth printer MW-260MFi prints an NDA contract using A7 paper, the fifth printer RJ-4040 prints a long banner, the sixth printer TD-2130N prints a receipt, and the seventh printer QL-720NW will print the reverse window sticker 3 feet long. Although it may sound unrealistic, we were simply trying to push the limit. Also, we decided to bring back the support of the beautiful iPad 1. Most people think that it is slow and obsolete, we prove them wrong. This version you can run everything on a fast 13" iPad Pro or a vintage iPad 1. You can also install this version on an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4. Aha, my personal favorite. Why spend $800 on a phone you can get one working just as good for $30? Now, enough playing around, let's get back to work. P.S. you may need to get used to the new version before you really, really appreciate it. Be patient, and call us or email us if you need any help. Also, we are giving away free iPhone 4 and iPad 1 kiosk. Email us and find out how. ;-)
Release 2.5 is available April 19th, 2017. Most new features are not immediately noticeable. It is meant for a smooth transition, or learn as needed. We will document each new features in our coming blogs and tutorials. Some of the exciting features include:
- Support of 14 new printers. If you go to Settings->Printer Name, you will see Brother's RJ-2050, RJ-2150, RJ-3050, RJ-3050Ai, RJ-3150, RJ-3150Ai, RJ-4040, RJ4030, MW-260MFi, MW-145MFi, TD-2120N, TD-2130N, PT-P750W, PJ-763MFi, PT-P900W and PT-P950NW.
- Support of printing 2 templates to the same printer, or 2 different printers, with ONE TAP. Imagine you can print the name badge on DK-2205, and a ticket on DKN5224, all with one check-in process. What about print guest's name tag, and an NDA form? Yay!
- Support printing of multiple copies with ONE TAP. Imagine printing the name badge on DK-1234, and 10 copies of Social-Media stickers with QR code on the PT-P750W. W stands for WOW!
- New templates and template features. You can now print a large banner with QR code for your trade show booth, and 1 tiny sticker to be ironed on your guest's T-shirt. Guess which will get more attention? ;)
- We are now certified to support Brother's MFi and bluetooth printers. With bluetooth you can connect to several printers with one device. With WiFi, you can have several devices to connect to one printer. Let your imagination run wild.
- Anything else? Contact us and we will add them to our future list. We may be a small company, but we are always way, way ahead of our competitors.
NOTE: we will soon release version 2.5.1 that supports unlimited templates. Most event management apps support 1 printer at a time, our release 2.5 supports 2 printers. The next release will literally support unlimited printers with unlimited templates. Your printers can be mixed Bluetooth, MFi, WiFi, or AirPrint. For those of you prefer simplicity, the default is still one printer, and select one template and that is probably all you need. However, sometime in the future, you may wish to do a lot more and you can bring your event to a large trade show. This version is definitely ready for all your future needs.
Question: How do we print QR code on a QL-710W printer?
Answer: Follow the steps below:
1. Go to Settings->Scroll Down to Template 1->Scroll Down to Select QR Window Sticker
2. Again Select Template 1, now QR Window Sticker should have a checkmark, which means it is selected
3. Tap at Edit on the top right corner, and Tap at this template QR Window Sticker again
4. Make sure that the Printer Name is selected as Brother QL-710W (you can select any supported printers that you are using)
5. Make sure that the Paper is selected as 62mm. Press Done to exit the template
6. Make sure your printer is ON, and DK-2205 paper roll is loaded
7. Enter a new record, enter a name
8. Tap Print
9. A square 2.4"x2.4" QR code will be printed.
This is a template that you can learn about QR code printing. You can enter anything under name field and the QR code will be printed. If you wish to customize the name badge, you can look at other templates with QR code and study the templates to create your own. You can continue explore this simple template by going to Edit Mode as in step 3 above. Once inside the template, scroll down to the bottom and tap at Field #1. Then you will see under Bar Code, the Type is selected as QR Code. Above it, you will see Value defined as "%name value%". You can change to "%description value%" (all in lowercase), then the description/note field for the name badge will be printed as QR code. Yes, it is a little complicated. But it is good to know that you can create unlimited templates and you only need to do it once. We also create custom template at a nominal fee ($50 or less). There are so many things you can do with QR codes. This Window Sticker is an example. It is meant to be printed on a DK-2213 clear label. But obviously you can print on any paper sizes that are supported by this app, including to a letter size paper or film.
Question: Do we need to register to use this app?
Answer: No. Run this app completely in private. Nowadays you want to minimize any risks having your event data hacked. Your event guests' privacy should be 100% protected. The second you launch the app, you are ready to enter your guest's name and print the name tag, in as little as 6 seconds. No hidden fees, no annual subscriptions, no per guest cost, no recurring cost, EVER. It is the best deal for any event management systems in the world.
Question: Why can't I just use the generic name tags from any office supply stores?
Answer: You can, of course. But, if you want any or all of the following: 1) professional looking name tags, 2) a faster check-in, 3) more customized designs with images, QR code or barcode, 4) serialized raffle numbers, and 5) overall lower cost per name tag, then please consider this app. Lastly, having a professional name badge registration system on location will most certainly provide you better security than the write-your-name-and-walk-in method.
Question: What is a typical use of your app?
Answer: Name tags are everywhere, and more so when security becomes increasingly important. NB201 is short for Name Badge 201 applications. Email us for a free white paper of this list. Here is a most recent success story; an upscale co-working space in California installed the app for 2 main applications; 1) manage events for their tenants, 2) manage guests. Having guests wear the name tags makes residents feel safer, and the ability to follow up with guests for marketing purposes are added benefits.
Question: How do I import a list of names from another event check-in system (part 1)?
Answer: Although it takes only minutes to do this task, we would prefer to show you with a tutorial video (soon). In the meantime, feel free to contact us via the contact form. Still want to learn in a hurry? Simply: just add a few records, go to Settings->Today->Tap at Email button to email everything you just entered to yourself. Open the csv file and you will find out how simple it is. The only trick is, you need to rename the file extension from .csv to .csvn201. Email the file to yourself and open the email from the device where the app is installed. Tap at the file button and open it. You will be taken to the app and all records will be imported. Yes, it sounds so simple, but watching a tutorial will be a lot easier.
Question: How do I import a list of names from another event check-in system (part 2)?
Answer: Here are the steps to import guest list from Eventbrite or other popular event management systems: 1. From Eventbrite, export the list to a csv file or an excel file (you need to select at least the name to export), 2. Edit the exported file if necessary. If you have only one field for the name, then the row 1 will have to be Name. If your system exported both last name and first name, you should concatenate them into one field using the Excel command concatenate (A1," ",B1), etc., 3. If you need to import Name, Description, and Email, then the row 1 will be Name|Description|Email. Notice that these 3 fields are separated by the pipe character "|". Row 2 and beyond are your actual data. 4. Save the file as a text file or csv file. Rename the file with an extension of xxx.csvnb201. For example, EVENT1.csvnb201., and 5. Email this file to yourself. Open the email from the device you wish to import it from. Tap and Hold at the file icon and you will see a pop-up message asking you to OPEN IN. Choose Name Badge app to open. The import will begin immediately. After you have successfully imported the entire list, you can rename the folder directly from the Home Menu. Simply tap at the >>> button on the right to edit the name of the folder. The process is non-destructive. You can practice until you are proficient with the process. It should take you less than a few minutes each time doing the import. The actual time importing the 1000 records should be really fast. We deliberately show the counter to indicate the progress. (We will produce a video for this procedure in the future)
Question: How can we import from Eventbrite's export?
Answer: It is quite easy. 1) go to Eventbrite and export your event to csv or excel file, 2) download and use the excel template file EventBriteConversion.xls at the bottom of this help, 3) copy column A to V from Evenbrite's file to this template, 4) copy the formula from column W to AA to the last record, 5) copy the entire column AA and paste as value into a new sheet, 6) save it as xxx.csvnb201 where xxx is any name you wish to call it, 7) email yourself the file to any iOS device with the app installed, 8) open the email from such device, tap at the file name, and select Name Badge app to import it to, and 9) it should load all the data to your app, you can rename the folder name if you wish.
Question: How do I enter and/or import additional guest information such as Company Name (part 3)?
Answer: All guest information can be entered and imported via the Description field. When you create your csv file, put these information in the Description column, for example, your guest's Company Name. Don't change the heading to "Company Name," please leave it as Description. Then you can create your own template by duplicating any existing template and choose description to be printed. In our next tutorial, we will show you how you can print selected line from the description field. This will be a very helpful feature for advanced users, and more complicated events. Let's say you have a gala event with 700 guests, you wish to assign them Table Number and Meal Type, in addition to their title. You can have all three pieces of information inside the description field. Then you can design a name tag, with title, table number, and meal type. Don't forget that you can also print a table tent card with the app, in colors. :)
Question: Can I use it as an Event Check-In System (part 1)?
Answer: Name Badge app is mainly designed to be a system to print name tags. It is definitely not as elaborate as some complicated event check-in systems. Lacking it, in fact, is considered as a good thing, to many budget conscious event managers. Many customers of ours are using this app as event check-in in this manner: 1) print the name badges ahead of the event, as guests arrive, they pick up their name badges, 2) for those last-minute registered guests, on demand printing will be used, names are entered quickly, 3) at the end of the event, you or your staff will gather all unused name badges, log in to our system and either delete them from the list, or move them to a special "NO SHOW" folder. Then you can email yourself the report that contains only the guests who attended the event. This approach obviously requires much less manpower, and can even be unattended. You have more time greeting your guests than acting like a bouncer. :) Okay, are we planning to implement a more conventional event check-in system in the future? Probably yes, then it will also be a little more expensive. In the meantime, let's make it simple (and smart).
Question: Can we use it as a realtime event Check-In System (part 2)?
Answer: Again, although it is not what the app is about. But through helping one of our customers till 1AM in the morning, we have figured out how to turn this app into an onsite registration system. Follow these 3 simple steps: 1) enter or import all the names that are registered for the event, if possible, prior to the event, 2) create a new folder to house checked-in guests later, call it "Arrival" or anything, 2) during the event, as guests arrive, use the admin mode to check in one at a time by finding their name either through alphabetically order, or via the built-in search feature. Tap to select the name, and tap folder field to switch this guest to the checked-in folder defined in step 1, and print the name tag. Notice that this app also gives you a running count of how many who have checked in. Lastly, 3) at the end of the day, simply go to Settings->Show Report->By Item, and select the checked-in folder and generate the report and the csv file. Yes, it may take an extra tap to do what you want, but this app will sure save you lots of money. This method also requires you to assist in checking in, which is what most bigger events will do anyway. Good news for those who have already purchased this app, we do intend to simplify the process in our future release, as a free upgrade. So give us a great review NOW so we can put this process as our top priority. ;)
Question: Why $9.99 when others are charging $499 per month?
Answer: This is our new app, and we are eager to please. For the first 10,000 customers, you get unlimited usage at a super low cost. You also get more features, and personal assistance than those much more expensive apps. Note: in our release 3.0, all new users will pay $9.99 per month, which is still a small fraction of the $299 or $499 monthly fee. Existing users will continue to enjoy the lifetime free updates.
Question: What devices and OS does this app support?
Answer: Good news! the app support all iPad devices; iPad 1, 2, 3, 4, mini 1, 2, 3, 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, and the new iPad Pro. It supports the latest iOS 9.1, all the way back to the iOS 5.1. Since we developed the app from scratch, it is fast and efficient. As Brother's preferred system integrator, we are able to use direct printer commands to print to the Brother's label printers. The minimal requirement to run this app is an iPad, any iPads. Although ideally you would need a printer, many customers are using it without a printer and they are taking full advantage of the event management, raffle, and the simulation features.
Question: Is the system completely wireless?
Answer: Yes, of course. The app supports Brother's QL-710W and QL-720NW professional wireless label printers, as well as any AirPrint compatible printers. Imagine this, you can carry the iPad and walk around the event place to sign in all unregistered guests, and the name badges will be printed from far away.
Question: Do you need Internet connection?
Answer: Although normally you would need an internet connection, we figured it out so you don't have to have any Internet connection. It is like having a private network and you can have your next event in a remote island with no internet connection. Contact us for the special setup guide.
Question: Why the print is so small on my QL-710W printer?
Answer: Very likely you have changed the setting to AirPrint. Go to Admin->Setting->Printer Name, and either choose the QL-710W printer or choose Use Template. Although the printer is AirPrint compatible, our app talks directly to the printer to allow us to control all of its functions. A rule of thumb is to set the Printer Name to AirPrint only if you are using any non-Brother printers.
Question: How do I create a new event?
Answer: Real simple. Exit the Data Entry screen by tapping at the SETTING button (third button from the lower right corner). You are now at the admin's main menu. Tap the [+] button on the bottom toolbar. Tap at the Category field and enter a name for your event and tap [Save]. That's it, you are done in 12 seconds. To make this event the default event, you tap at the [Setting] bottom from the menu, tap at the second setting from the top [Default Data Entry Folder], and choose the event you just created. Done! Now if you run the app, all data entries will automatically go to this event. NOTE: be creative with the concept of "event." It can be by group at the same event. For example you have 3 groups of people coming to the events; the media, the members, and the guests. You can create 3 separate groups and register them by selecting the right group using the pull-down menu. Or, you can have 3 separate stations each will be responsible for registering a different group.
Question: Do you support multiple iPads sharing the same database?
Answer: Not for the current version. This version 1.0 is designed to run online and offline with each iPad running independently. You can share the data via offline integration.
Question: Can multiple iPads print to the same printer?
Answer: Yes. Jobs will be queued to your printer first come first serve. The printer must be in the same network as the devices.
Question: What printers are supported?
Answer: We support literally any AirPrint compatible printers. We also support directly to QL-710W and the professional QL-720NW label printers at its maximum speed of 93 labels per minute.
Question: What type of papers or labels are being used?
Answer: For the name badges, we support literally all Brother's labels. For your convenience, we have the templates that will use the DK-2205 to print any name badge sizes, from 1.2" to 5", without changing the paper cartridge. This means that you can print nearly 1,000 name badges without ever worrying about the paper. Do you know that Brother's QL-710W and QL-720NW printers are thermal label printers which require no ink? Keep in mind that they are black and white at 300dpi high resolution. For AirPrint compatible printers, we are the only app that supports name badges from 3x5 to 8.5x11, plain paper, matt paper, or photo paper.
Question: Should we use the non-Brother brand's labels, which is cheaper?
Answer: Excellent question. You probably will save between 20-40% if you buy from off-brand but compatible labels. We actually have tried them all. Here is our experience: 1) the paper is thinner, 2) the black is not as black, 3) it may void your printer's warranty if it is causing any problem, and most alarmingly, 4) the adhesive is not as strong and it can be peeled off easily, and 5) it may jam your printer. Considering that the real Brother will only cost you as little as 2 cents per name badge, why bother? We would strongly recommend that you use Brother's brand. If you are really prudent, you can buy the DK-2205 from Amazon for $14.68. It can print up to 1,000 name badges. Hey, that's less than 2 pennies per label. ;) Update: we just found out the hard way that non-Brother's brand labels will fade very quickly, and they definitely cannot be laminated. In fact, most thermal labels cannot be laminated, except Brother's labels. If you adhere the label to a 2.6" by 4.1" card, it can be laminated into beautiful name badge. See some of the images in our blogs.
Question: How long does it take to get the app setup and ready to print?
Answer: if you already have an AirPrint compatible printer, or a Brother QL-710W or Brother QL-720NW printer connected, you can print your first name badge in less than 10 seconds. Each subsequent badge takes less than 2 seconds. With our unique automation feature, you can print the name badges for your entire event (up to 500 labels) in minutes.
Question: How difficult is to design our own template?
Answer: you can design your own template in as little as 1 minute. Simply find from one of our 20 templates, duplicate it, and add your own. For example, you can change the ubiquitous "Hello My Name is" to any language in the world by simply replace the text via copy and paste, save it, and it is yours! Do you know that we also included many new fonts? We added some cursive and some unique handwriting fonts that should satisfy your creative designs.
Question: How do we custom our data entry screen?
Answer: very easy. Simply use our vanilla screen, add your own backgrounds and foregrounds images, save it to your photo album. Then go to setting, scroll down to the bottom, tap Data Entry Custom Screen, tap "From Photo Album" and select the image you just created. That's it!! You can have have unlimited custom screen, one for each of your event, if you like. DIY for free, or call us and we can design it professionally for as little as $100, mostly in less than an hour.
Question: Do you print color labels?
Answer: Yes, for AirPrint compatible printers only. You can also use the Zink compatible printers, such as Zink Mobile Printer, Polaroid Snap, and many others to print 2x3 color labels and name badges. To do so, however, you will print the name badges to the photo album, and print the Zink labels from the printer's app. Yes, it will take you an extra 10 seconds. We do plan to support MFi certified printers in the future with a free upgrade. Hint: do you know that this app allows you to customize your name badge with literally unlimited possibilities including barcode and QR code? Hey, think about Company ID Card, Security Card, license ID, etc. This is the only app that will print on a 3x5 card, by using most HP printers.
Question: Color Name Badges with Brother QL Label Printers?
Answer: Do you know that you can print color labels on sheet paper, and apply them to black-and-white labels printed from Brother's QL label printers? Simply create a template for any Airprint compatible printers. Print them on-demand, or preprint them in bulk. Then after you print the name badges from the Brother's QL label printers, apply these colorful labels anywhere you wish. The applications are unlimited. Think logos, icons, beautiful artworks, etc. Our app is the only app that creates hybrid name badges. For those of you who prefer premade color labels, try the inexpensive Washi Masking tapes. The third option, which is my favorite, is to preprint high quality cards in large quantity, apply the name badge labels, and laminate them. They look beautiful on both sides and serve wonderfully for all your marketing needs.
Question: Can your app take a photo (selfie) on-site at an event and print it to the visitor's badge along with their name and surname?
Answer: Of course, the latest version supports all iPhone and iPad devices. Hold your device in portrait mode and voila, the image source will come from your camera. Tap at the photo, and tap at the front-facing camera, snap a photo of yourself, and print the badge with the photo using the built-in template: NAME, PHOTO, EVENT 3.4x2.4 Brother DK-2205 for black and white labels. You can also select the NAME PHOTO 5x3 INDEX CARD TENT AirPrint template for color card. Obviously you can also design your own or contact us for a complimentary design. Remember, we are eager to please.
Question: How do I support an event with more than 100 attendees?
Answer: The app supports printing of 1 to unlimited number of badges. Realistically, it can support up to 10,000 attendees per day. Here are a few ways you can do it: 1) import the attendee list, print from 1 to 1,000 using one paper cartridge depending on the size you choose, have 1 iPad at the entrance for last-minute attendees, 2) place 1 to 100 iPads in the registration area, with 1 to 20 label printers. Since each registration takes as little as 6 seconds, you can register up to 600 guests per station per hour. You can direct the guests to separate lines (A-Z, VIP, Students, Members, etc.)
Question: How do we merge the list of all the on-site registration guests?
Answer: At the end of the event, go to Admin Setting -> Show Report -> Select the date or folder, and email the entire list to yourself. If you have multiple stations, you can easily merge the list in one single spreadsheet.
Question: Can the app be run unattended?
Answer: Yes, obviously with certain precautions. We would recommend that you have a protected kiosk with lock. You should set the admin password and turn the app to NO SLEEP mode. The setting will take you less than 1 minute but is important. The app itself is designed to be intuitively and have an auto help, auto clear, and an error-proof feature. You can also customize the "Thank You" message and direct the guests to pick up the badge if it is not in the same room.
Question: How do we use the raffle feature?
Answer: Very simple, first make sure that the raffle number is automatically assigned. It is displayed under the note field. You can go to the setting and change different set of raffle numbers. The default is an industry strength 12-digit random number. The chance of it being duplicated is 1 to 100000000000. Secondly you choose the name badge with the raffle numbers. Normally you would use the non-adhesive paper such as DKN5224. The name badge will be inserted into the badge holder for a more formal appearance. The raffle ticket portion will be torn and deposited to a bowl for later public random drawing.
Question: Can we turn off the Simulated Print Image?
Answer: Yes. Go to Admin Settings -> Slide the Simulation field to OFF. Simulation is ON as a default. It has a couple of benefits; 1) you can preview the template before you print. All it takes is to tap once on the image and it will be printed. 2) it also allows you to save the image without printing by tapping 2-finger at the image, or to clear the image without printing or saving by tapping 3-finger at the image.
Question: What is that [Printer] button at the bottom of the data entry screen?
Answer: it is the [REPRINT] button. Say if for some reason a guest wish to have a second name badge, simply tap at this button. The printer itself is very reliable with industrial strength. We have tested with thousands of labels and all the potential problems are being eliminated. Print with a peace of mind. (NOTE: REPRINT button only works for Brother's printers. For AirPrint printers, please use the Admin Mode to reprint any name badges)
Question: Will you raise the price for this app?
Answer: Whatever price you purchased will provide you unlimited free upgrade in the future. Yes, the price will go up gradually. Most revenue are reinvested in development.
Question: How do I delete an event or a name from an event? Also, how do I backup an event.
Answer: From the menu, swipe the event or the name from left to right, you will see the [Delete] option appears. Tap it to delete it. If you change your mind, simply tap elsewhere. You might want to backup the entire event if you wish to archive it. Go to Settings->Show Report->By Item, and select the entire folder, tap [Email] button and email the entire CSV file to yourself.
Question: How do I re-import an entire event?
Answer: If the event is already imported you might want to delete it first. Otherwise, the app allows attendees with the same name. You may also wish to clear the entire database without deleting your current settings. To do so, go to Settings->Turn ON Clear DB Before Import. When you import a new file, the entire database will be clear (WIPE CLEAN), and the new list will be imported. Please make sure 1) backup before you do so, 2) turn OFF Clear DB Before Import after it is completed. As a common practice, you would email you the entire event list to yourself as a backup. Event is usually ephemeral and should not be kept in the app forever.
Question: How do I change an existing attendee to a different event?
Answer: Activate the admin mode, tap at the arrow button from the event menu to edit the specific attendee, tap at the event pull-down menu and select a new one. Tap the big PRINT button to save it. Tap [Cancel] if you do not wish to print it.
Question: Does this app limit to event check-in only?
Answer: Great question. Event is a broad term and can be anything, from a membership gathering, to a large conference, from a wedding event, to a charity ball, or simply use it at your corporate office to check in guests and employees. In fact some of our name badge designs can be laminated and used as a permanent name badges.
Question: I kept all my past events and now with over 10,000 attendees names, is there a quick way to find someone?
Answer: Simple, from the main menu, tap at the search button at the lower left corner. Type the name and voila. You will see all the events s/he attended. We also support regular expression search, if you are interested.
Question: What if I want to print the name tags that are already being entered or imported?
Answer: super easy, go to the event folder, browse and find the name, tap at it, and tap that giant [PRINT] button. You can also use the convenient [SEARCH] button from the main menu or from the event menu. To print a range of name tags, go to Setting->Show Report->By Item (or By Date), and select the event and the names you wish to print. Have your printer ready and paper loaded, tap the [Print] button on lower left corner, and let it fly.
Question: Other than entering the name, what other fields are required?
Answer: That's it. The category is automatically defaulted to the current event. The description will default to a randomized 12-digit raffle number. The email field is totally optional. The photo/image field is also optional and is used only if needed.
Question: How do we encourage guests to enter their email address?
Answer: The answer is in your question "encourage." Unless you are giving each guest a new BMW i8, 99% of attendees would prefer not to enter their email address. If you say that those with an email address will be eligible for a sought-after prize, your chances may increase to 70% or higher. Here is the trick to draw a random name from only those people who entered their email address; Setting->Default Random Search Text, type "\.com|\.us|\.net|\.org". This expression will pick a random name from its email addresses ended with the respective extension. Besides, without email address, how do you notify the winners? ;)
Question: Can we use this app to run an event service business?
Answer: While we allow unlimited events, unlimited guests, we are also selling and renting the event-in-a-box system. Running your own event service business would require an annual license fee of $5,000 from us. Please contact us for more detail.
Question: How difficult is to setup a Brother QL-710W Professional Label Printer?
Answer: Not difficult at all. From opening the box, to printing your first name badge, it can be done in as little as 1 minute. Here is the secret we just discovered: 1) install our app on your iOS device, 2) open a brand new QL-710W label printer, plug in the power, press the power button, and press the WIFI button, one will be solid, the other will be flashing, 3) insert the free sample paper called DK-2205, 4) go to your device Setting, tap Wifi and under Choose a Network, you will see an option called SETUP. Tap to select it. Now both lights should turn solid green, 5) Lastly, launch Name Badge app, enter your name and tap the big [Print] button. In a few seconds you should see your first label being printed. For more information, please refer to the User's Guide.
Question: Can you produce a series of YouTube videos to show us all those wonderful how-to?
Answer: Of course. Here is what we are planning to do. We will begin with 10 most frequently asked questions with videos, then each time we found an answer that is not being clear, we will immediately make a video and post it online. Good?
Question: We are still learning and want to explore everything possible. What is the worst thing that can happen?
Answer: The worst thing that can happen is that you accidentally delete all your data. It is a common sense to back up your data by simply go to Setting->Show Report->By Item, and select all items and tap at the Email Button on the lower right corner. Email to yourself. You can always restore all data as is with the backup.
Question: In UK we have the DK-22223 and DK-22225 label rolls, do you support them?
Answer: We ordered from UK and tested these label rolls and guess what? They both work perfectly. Follow the step below to create a template for DK-22223 label roll: 1) Go to Settings->Template and select the default template "NAME AND EVENT 3.4x2.4 BROTHER DK-2205 HELLO", 2) Tap "Edit" on the upper-right corner, now you are in edit mode, 3) Scroll to the bottom and tap "Duplicate Current Template", 4) Tap at the new template, change the title DK-2205 to DK-22223, 5) Now tap at "Paper" and select 50mm, it is the height of the DK-22223 label roll, 6) Now tap at Size and change width from 3.3 to 2.8, and height from 2.362 to 2, tap [Done], 7) Now go to Settings->Template and select the new template you just created. That's it. You can use this template from now on. The size is smaller than the 3.4"x2.4" but still good enough for a name tag. You can print 428 name tags using the DK-22223 label roll. Too lazy to spend 1 minute creating this template? You can also download the style below from your device's browser and the template will be loaded directly to your Name Badge app.
Question: What is that "Export" button on the upper right corner of the Template Setting?
Answer: Good question. Coming from above, if you wish to share the template you designed with anyone in your organization who also has the same app, just tap "Export" and email to the person. The recipient can open the email, tap and hold at the attachment to see a pop-up that allows him/her to import this template. The template will be immediately selected and it can be used to print right away. Isn't it cool?
Question: How do we modify and duplicate an existing template?
Answer: This is probably one of the best "hidden" features. Glad that you ask. Say for example we helped you creating an award winning name tag design and you wish to use it again and again. Here are the simple steps you can do in less than a few minutes:
1. Create a replacement image (with exact alignment), save it to your iPad/iPhone photo album
2. Launch the app, go to settings, and select the template to be duplicated, tap "Edit" on the top right corner
3. Now go to the bottom of the list, tap at "Duplicate Current Template...", a new template with identical information will be created at the bottom
4. Tap at the new template and change the Title field (so you can recognize it)
5. Scroll to the bottom of the template edit, tap at Field #1, then tap at Image (somewhere in the middle)
6. Choose the image from Photo Album, and select the background image you saved to the photo album in step 1 above. Tap Done all the way to save the changes.
7. Now, test the new template by creating a new record, preview and print.
Question: How do we create our own template with our logo?
Answer: First, download the file nb201_template_001.png below. This is the file being used as the template "NAME AND EVENT 3.4x2.4 BROTHER DK-2205 HELLO". Notice that the file has transparent background. Second, modify this file anyway you want, change the language, add your logo, add image, change font, add borders, add text, whatever. Save the file as size 1000x715, which is more than enough for a high-quality badge print. Keep in mind that solid black works best and Brother Label Printer does not print colors. Be sure to leave space for guest's name and the event name. Third, save the file to the device you are using. Follow the steps from "How do we modify and duplicate an existing template?" above and duplicate this template to a new one. Now, edit the new template and choose Field #2, tap at the Image field and choose "From Photo Album". Then select the new image you just created. Save and exit. Test it with a new data entry.
Question: How do we replace the Event Name on the name badge with something else?
Answer: Using the same example above, if you wish to replace the Event Name (which is underneath the guest's name) with for example, the guest's company name, here are the steps:
1. First of all, duplicate an existing template and rename it properly. Avoid modify the templates that are bundled with the app. For example, you can duplicate the template "NAME AND EVENT 3.4x2.4 BROTHER DK-2205 HELLO"
2. Now edit the new template you just duplicated
3. Select Field #4, under Value, it is "%parent value%". Tap at it and replace the word "parent" with "description". After the change, you should see "%description value%".
4. To test the new template, enter a new record, guest name, and put the guest's company inside the description.
Question: Why can't you just make all those tutorial videos?
Answer: I know, I know. Sorry, sorry. However, ask all our customers, we respond to all your emails and requests almost immediately. As soon as a question arises, we put them in this help first. Then when we are done with lucubration, we are too tired to smile at camera and make that inspiring, happy videos. Be patient. :)
Question: Is there a way to speed up the print process?
Answer: Yes. You can bypass the print preview by going to Settings->Print Preview, and slide left to turn it off. Please make sure that it is printing the right template before you turn the Print Preview off. Another way to speed up is to simply tap at the Preview Image. The default will be to print.
Question: How do we report bugs?
Answer: You can report bug via our CONTACT. We update our app constantly. We also keep a list of current pending bugs below. (Currently none)
Question: Do you support the new QL-820NWB and QL-810W label printers?
Answer: Yes. Our latest release 2.3, available on February 1, 2017, support these wonderful new printers. We also included a new template "NAME AND EVENT 3.4x2.4 DK-22251 CUSTOM" that will print to either one of these 2 printers. The template is currently set to print to the QL-820NWB printer, but you can change it to QL-810W. QL-820NWB supports both WiFi and Bluetooth. Please note that the DK-22251 is the same as DK-2251.
Question: Are there any know bugs we should be aware of?
Answer: What you don't know won't hurt you. Just kidding... We believe honesty is the best policy. If we identify any bugs, we will list here from now on, until they are fixed. Keep in mind that it may take up to 3 weeks for us to fix the bug and to wait for the date it is being approved for release. Okay, there is one small bug: if you search from the home menu, find the name, you must tap at the >>> button to edit or print the record. If you tap at the name itself, it will take you to a plain data screen. No harm done, simply tap at the home button from the toolbar to return to the search.
PENDING BUGS REPORT
(08-23-17): All bugs should be fixed as of the latest 2.8.1 update. There is one known bug that will be fixed soon. It is when you change one template, and immediately go to another template, some of the values may be carried over.
1. When you create your custom template, be sure to export it via the simple "Export" button on Settings->Template (upper right corner). You can re-import this template directly from your email in the future, or share it with your colleagues. This is just common sense.
2. When you are creating your own template, since we are still working on the procrastinating tutorials, please learn from a plethora of existing templates first. Because of the potential complexities of the template structure (think rotating text, various printer, paper sizes, unlimited number of layers, etc.), we would recommend that you start simple, then move on to a more complicated task. You can always email us and we will make one for you, 100% free of charge.
- Support of 14 new printers. If you go to Settings->Printer Name, you will see Brother's RJ-2050, RJ-2150, RJ-3050, RJ-3050Ai, RJ-3150, RJ-3150Ai, RJ-4040, RJ4030, MW-260MFi, MW-145MFi, TD-2120N, TD-2130N, PT-P750W, PJ-763MFi, PT-P900W and PT-P950NW.
